BENTONG: Chinese New Year music blared out as ang pow were given, drowning the excited squeals of children.
But this did not stop special student Tan Hing Sim, 18, from wishing Health Minister and Bentong member of parliament Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai a hearty "Gong Xi Fa Cai", much to Liow's amusement.
Tan was among more than 40 special students from PDK Harapan Kg Perting and PDK Ceria who attended the Chinese New Year celebration and safety campaign hosted by MTD Group at the Bentong toll plaza here yesterday.
PDK Harapan Kg Perting and PDK Ceria is a rehabilitation and skills training centre for children who have Down's syndrome and cerebral palsy, as well as those who are autistic, slow learners and hyperactive.
Teacher Pechayee Subramaniam said the students were very excited about the event. "Some parents told me that their children were so excited that they did not want to sleep."
About 40 senior citizens from Rumah Sejahtera Bentong were also present.
Motorists are in for a treat as MTD has announced that the East Coast Expressway from Gombak to Jabor would be toll-free from 11.30pm yesterday to 4.30am today. It will also be toll-free from 11.30pm on Monday to 4.30am the next day.
