KUANTAN: The Bentong and Gombak toll plazas in the KL-Karak Highway will go fully cashlass from noon on Sept 9 to boost traffic flow. East Coast Expressway concession holders Anih Bhd’s director, Nik Fauzi Nik Hussein, Said all 16 cash lanes were running on a mixed-mode system that would be phased out to adopt the new payment method. He said the electronic toll collection system, where toll transactions were conducted electronically through Touch ‘n Go cards or SmartTAGs, was easier and more convenient for motorists.

“The electronic transaction is part of our effort to offer an improved toll collection system and bring convenience to highway users. “The move will increase safety and ease congestion for road users, especially during weekends, public holidays and festive seasons. “To ensure smooth traffic, Touch ‘n Go cards will be sold at the toll booths, and reload lane facilities will be offered at both plazas. “Motorists can buy Touch ‘n Go cards at customer service centres near the Bentong and Gombak toll plazas.”

Nik said Anih Bhd had launched a promotional Touch ‘n Go card, sold at RM5, to encourage highway users to switch from cash to the electronic toll payment method. He said 30,000 Touch ‘n Go cards had beed offered since Aug 1 to encourage motorists to use the system. “The response has been encouraging, with some 15,000 cards sold. “Besides frequent travelers, others should take the opportunity to buy the cards at a low price.” Twelve toll plazas will use the electronic toll collection system from Sept 9.
